Asbury Place’s Melony Walker Earns ‘Azzy Award’

Meloney Walker, an administrative assistant at Asbury Place continuing care retirement community in Maryville, has been recognized with an “Azzy Award” for everyday excellence in integrity.

Walker has worked at Asbury Place for more than six years. The awards are presented by Asbury Communities, a nationally recognized leader in aging services, and given to associates who help promote Asbury’s vision of redefining the expectations of aging through their work at an Asbury community. Asbury Place affiliated with Asbury Communities in 2016.

“Our associates, residents, families, vendors and visitors all view Meloney as the ‘go-to’ person,” said Carolyn P. Neil, health care administrator for Asbury Place Maryville. “She is trusted and relied upon to get things done, even if it’s not her routine duties, and has handled responsibilities in nearly every administrative position on campus.

“Meloney has a deep commitment to Asbury Place and this community. Her positive attitude and can-do spirit is the epitome of how to ‘celebrate life’ at our campus.”

The award winners were announced May 2 at Asbury Communities' annual Leadership Development Institute in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Asbury Place Names Machuga Regional Director of Human Resources

Asbury Place continuing care retirement communities has named Barbara Machuga regional director of human resources.

Machuga comes to Asbury Place with more than 25 years of human resources experience across a broad spectrum of industries. She most recently had a 15-year career as director of human resources for Springhill Senior Living, an Asbury community located in Erie, Pennsylvania.

In her role at Asbury Place, Machuga will serve the Kingsport and Maryville campuses, which have more than 550 combined employees.

“Thanks to her long and successful career at a sister Asbury community in Pennsylvania, Barb understands our culture and makes the perfect fit for our Maryville and Kingsport campuses,” said Marjorie Shonnard, vice president of operations for Asbury, Inc. “We are fortunate to have her in this important role.”

Machuga, who has a passion for helping people and engaging associates, said she is delighted to stay with Asbury communities and to be living in Tennessee, which is closer to her six children and 14 grandchildren.

Machuga and her husband live in Vonore. The outdoor enthusiasts enjoy biking, golfing and being on the water.
