LeadingAge Tennessee providing 1.5 NAB CEUs
REGISTER TODAY

Every four seconds a family member (usually employed) learns they need to care for a loved one
with a diagnosis of dementia, MS, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s or other chronic illness, contributing
to the 43.5 million untrained family caregivers and the 70% who suffer from depression. We can
no longer ignore the “Silver Tsunami” as 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 daily, impacting the work
habits of the age 40 and older caregivers who make up the workforce.

Caregivers often feel guilty, angry, or stressed. Attend this event, presented by Morning Pointe Foundation in partnership with BB&T, to learn tips and strategies that can help!

Are you shocked by how today’s new hires think, dress, talk and behave at work? Are you frustrated that your younger workforce doesn’t work the same way as your seasoned staff?

Crescendo Strategies’ video-based online course, “Managing the Millennial Mindset,” showcases first-hand stories about the real generational issues on the T.A.B.L.E. (differing opinions about technology, authority, balance, loyalty, and entitlement). No PowerPoint slides with recorded video. This course is NOT a live or recorded webinar, and it is NOT intended for group viewing. It was designed for individual managers to complete at their own pace. Ready to preview the course now? Click here, then select the arrow on the video preview image.

Complete this course at your own pace by watching 15 short videos that share the backstory of why Millennials work differently than previous generations, and provide strategies for bridging today’s widening generational gaps.

Policy & Regulatory

— FROM Smith Harris & Carr —
2017 Legislative Session Recap

  • Medication aide legislation proposed by LA-Tn was passed in 2016, but the rule-making process grinds on. The rules have been approved through Board of Nursing and are now under review by Tennessee Attorney General’s office (since June 12), as required by the state law. Hopefully, the rules will be filed for a required public hearing in the near future, and there will also be a final review by the legislature’s Joint Government Operations Committee prior to implementation. (This committee meets monthly all year, not just during the legislative session.) Although we do not have a date for implementation, we are hopeful it will be by Jan. 1. In the meantime, a task force appointed by the LA-Tn board is developing a training program, which must ultimately be approved by the Board of Nursing in order to begin training medication aides.
  • PC (Public Chapter) 466 creates a new criminal offense of financial exploitation related to elderly adults, defined as those over 70.
  • PC 377 extends the nursing home assessment fee through the current fiscal year...

Asbury Place Resident Judith Anna Named ‘Senior of Distinction’ During LeadingAge Tennessee Conference

Judith Anna, who has called Asbury Place Continuing Care Retirement Community in Maryville home since 2015, recently was honored at the LeadingAge Tennessee Conference as a “Senior of Distinction.” The award recognizes residents dedicating time and talent to advance the mission, vision and values of their communities.

“Judith is very involved in the life of Asbury Place,” said Marjorie Shonnard, vice president of operations for Asbury Place. “She serves as president of the Resident Council; rekindled an East Tennessee Children's Hospital project of knitting caps for babies; was instrumental in planning and preparing meals for residents and staff to enjoy together in our newly renovated kitchen; and is particularly gifted at interacting with residents who live with dementia. She also serves the Maryville community through her church.”

Anna was affiliated with Asbury Place long before calling the community home. She worked in the assisted living activities department in the 1980s. Her husband, Freddrick Long, resides with her at Asbury Place and accompanied her to receive the award.
