Association Highlights 

LEADERSHIP UPDATE
LATN Board Meeting 

The LeadingAge Tennessee board met for its quarterly meeting in February 2018 where Alexian Village of Tennessee Executive Director, Mr. Terry Thompkins, was voted on to fulfill the remaining term of Robin Baschnagel through August 2020. Terry is a graduate from the University of Central Florida where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He received his Master of Divinity from Emory University, Candler School of Theology and is an Ordained United Methodist Minister. He holds a license as a nursing home administrator in both Georgia and Oklahoma. 

 

Terry brings expertise and vision from more than 27 years of leadership in Long-Term Care and Housing/Services for Older Adults. He has served as the Vice President of The United Hospice Foundation, Executive Vice President for Adult Service at Christian City, Regional Vice President for Asbury Communities and Praxeis, LLC and Executive Director at Wesley Woods, Newnan, GA. He is excited to be leading Alexian Village at this time in its history and is honored to be considered to serve on the Board of LeadingAge TN.

Governor Hallam announced an aggressive, comprehensive plan to end Tennessee's opioid epidemic through prevention, treatment and law enforcement. Emergency Preparedness Regulation Dashboard

CMS issued the Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers Final Rule to establish consistent emergency preparedness requirements for healthcare providers participating in Medicare and Medicaid, increase patient safety during emergencies, and establish a more coordinated response to natural and human-caused disasters. It is critical for Home Health, Hospice, Skilled nursing Facilities and PACE organizations to develop effective and robust emergency plans and responses.

The final Emergency Preparedness Rule released by CMS published in the 9/16/16 Federal Register and effective 11/15/16 states nursing homes, home health, hospice, and PACE have until 11/15/17 to implement the new Emergency preparedness requirements.

Rate Calculator: Home Health Medicare Rates for CY 2018

LeadingAge has updated the popular Home Health Agency (HHA) Medicare Rate Calculator to incorporate changes becoming effective Jan. 1, 2018. The calculator is based on the Home Health Final Rule released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
NOTE: You will need to sign into My.LeadingAge to access the file, which is a Microsoft Excel document.

Around the Association
Equine Therapy 

Residents from the memory unit at Trezevant Terrace Assisted Living toured the new grounds and were introduced to horses at Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy.

Three residents (pictured left) have ridden horses for most of their lives so this outing brought back many special memories. Southern Reins welcomes the group beginning March 7th for a 10-week program where the ladies along with five other residents from the memory unit will have an opportunity to gain therapy by being around the horses! 

First Choice Programming

Good Samaritan Society-Fairfield Glade is nearing completion of their new state-of-the-art physical therapy enter and their Post-Acute Admission Department is now accepting advanced requests to select Good Samaritan Society-Fairfield Glade for rehab after a planned surgery. Stay tuned for more details!
