As our Association continues to pause and reflect on 35 years of support for aging services providers, so too are our previous Executive Directors reflecting on their time with LeadingAge Tennessee. These leaders were instrumental in developing and nurturing partnerships, giving LeadingAge Tennessee (formerly TNAHSA) the necessary momentum and guidance to continue serving the providers, residents, and caregivers of our great state.
Vickie Harris shares her thoughts about her time in the director seat:

LOOKING BACK ON 35 YEARS REFLECTIONS
|
What was your most impactful moment or experience as a LeadingAge Tennessee executive director?
- The 2014 LeadingAge Tennessee Annual Meeting was a significant event in my memory. With the support of LeadingAge Texas and LeadingAge North Carolina, our annual meeting that year was a success on many levels, not the least of which is the incredible relationships developed and nurtured during our time together.
Working with members can be so rewarding. Can you share a special member memory or highlight?
- While I enjoyed serving so many LeadingAge Tennessee members over the years, I especially loved working with Asbury. They approached their work and care for residents in a creative, compassionate way and the organization and its leaders were forward-thinking about the actual design of housing for older adults.
When you considered the future of LeadingAge Tennessee during your tenure, what did you imagine it would be?
- I imagined LeadingAge Tennessee as the one entity representing an evolving older adult service line continuum, adapting to the many market variables but always keeping older adults at the center.
What are you most proud of during your work with LeadingAge Tennessee?
- As an interim Executive Director, and then moving into the role full-time, I led the organization at a critical moment in its history. Resetting the base for the organization to move from survival to a sustainable future was the work am most proud of during this time — an overarching impact of the daily work.
